This year John B. Dey has seven teams that have been working hard to prepare for this Regional
Tournament. Schools all over the Tidewater region will be represented in this competition. Come support

Fitness Club - Ascending Mt. Everest!
Every mile logged at JBD is equal to a foot of elevation. The elevation from the city of Tingri to
the Summit is 15,235 feet. Can JBD walk/run the equivalent distance in miles and then safely back
to Base Camp (26,670 miles)? ... or all the way back to Tingri (30,470
miles)?
JBD students have logged 11,473 miles from 1 October, 2011
through 22 December, 2011. We left Tingri (13,800 feet) and are on the ascent between
Camp 3 (24,500 feet) And Camp 4 (26,100 feet). We are at 25,273 feet of elevation on Mt. Everest!!!

January Volunteer of the Month
Lori Conelias
Lori has been working
hard with the grade level chairs for several years to bring new and rewarding programs for
each grade level. Lori also volunteers countless hours in the classroom. We also want to
thank Lori for her support and efforts with the Silent Auction, she spent many hours reaching
out to find items for our auction and also devoted many hours supporting the
event.

MISSION STATEMENT
To promote the education and welfare of children and
youth in home, school and community.
To provide support to staff and faculty in a way that
will enhance the children’s learning environment.
To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of
children.
To support the national PTA advocacy
groups.
To bring into closer relation the home and the school so
that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of their
students.
To give every parent an opportunity to become more
actively involved in their children’s education.
