Three local Fitness/Healthcare providers have eagerly volunteered to be guest speakers at JBD for 20-30 minutes for each of the grade level PE class on particular Friday.

The speakers provide information pertaining to their expertise to enhance the student’s knowledge of leading a healthy lifestyle. These are the FABULOUS speakers:

Bob Schniedwind, “Leprechaun Bob”

Mr. Schniedwind has been announcing for all of the J&A races for the past 10 years. He ran cross country and track in high school, completed over 50 marathons, and also coaches marathoners & 1/2 marathoners for 12+ years. He was also a 5th grade teacher for many years at Luxford Elementary.

Back by popular demand! In 2011, Leprechaun Bob came in costume to JBD and spoke to the students about his enjoyment of running, the importance of staying active, proper preparation for running (stretches, proper eating & hydration, proper shoes), and also what to expect if you participate in the Shamrock Final Mile (bib numbers, safety issues). Mr. Schniedwind even helped log the children's miles for the Fitness Club.

Kristyn Hedley, Event Director 

Kristyn started running in races when she was about 7 years old.  She ran cross country and track throughout middle school and high school.  She earned a college scholarship for running at the college of William and Mary and ran cross country and track for them for 4 years.  Kristyn continues to run for fun, while playing other sports as well. 

Working with our kids:


Kristyn Hedley discussed her history and love of running with the students. She first  showed them a video of the 2011 Shamrock Final Mile and discussed the preparation and expectations of this event. She also discussed proper preparation for running (stretches, proper eating & hydration, proper shoes) and why it is important to stay active and healthy!

Lisa Koperna is a Physical Therapist, Sports Clinical Specialist and Athletic Trainer.  (PT (Physical Therapist), DPT (Doctor of Physical Therapy), SCS (Sports Clinical Specialist), ATC (Athletic Trainer Certified))

Working with our kids:

Dr. Koperna will discuss injury prevention and care of athletic injuries. She will also discuss the benefits of eating healthy foods, being physically active, and living a healthy lifestyle.

Vicky Manning 

Vicky Manning, (American Council on Exercise Certified Personal Trainer, Road Runners Club of America Certified Distance Running Coach , CPR/AED and First Aid Certified by American Red Cross.)

Working with our kids:

Last year, Ms. Manning discussed the importance of healthy eating and exercise.  Topics included:  what is the definition of healthy eating, how much sugar and calories are in the food we eat, and why good nutrition is important.  She  discussed how exercise helps the body function better and the importance of hydration and signs of dehydration.  Ms. Manning is an experienced long distance runner and will give some pointers on running. Her theme is “everything in moderation!"
